Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Thailand, was presented the 2003 WANGO Universal Peace Award, WANGO's highest award to individuals, by Mr. Taj Hamad, Secretary General of WANGO, at a private audience in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 2, 2003.
For three decades, H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has offered exceptional public service, particularly in giving aid to those in need. Her extraordinary accomplishments, which transverse the wide sector of human endeavor, encompass aiding children, victims of natural or man-made disasters, and those who were injured in the service of their country; promoting environmental quality; improving social and economic development; providing scholarships for needy students, assisting in the education of handicapped children; advancing information technology; and providing financial support for education, culture, healthcare, the disadvantaged, young people and the elderly.
H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has demonstrated her commitment to such noble causes by her leadership in the non-governmental sector and in the public sector, including serving as Executive Chairman of the Chaipattana Foundation (in charge of His Majesty's development and environmental preservation projects), Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Ananda Mahidol Foundation (to promote higher education); Chairman of the King Rama II Foundation (to conserve and promote Thai Culture); President of the Sai Jai Thai Foundation (to support disabled veterans); Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Thai Red Cross Society (serving since 1977); President of the Prince Mahidol's Award Foundation (to award prizes annually to members of the international community for outstanding performances in fields of medicine and public health); Executive Chairman of the Thai Red Cross Childrens' Home; Chairman of the Committee of the Heart Foundation of Thailand; and Patron of the Debaratanarajasuda Foundation, among others.
In 1991, H.R.H. was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. The Magsaysay Award is the prestigious Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
