Objectives

  1. To mobilize WANGO members and other NGOs in Africa for the reviews of previous conferences and networking as means to strengthen the organization in the region.
  2. To create a unique meeting point for participants to dialogue and share innovative ideas and practices as well as build strategic partnership that can help NGOs better fulfill their missions.
  3. To review and promote the International Code of Ethics and Conduct for NGOs towards the Self-Certification Process.
  4. To launch the Zero Illiteracy Project for WANGO members and other NGOs in the region.
  5. To provide opportunities for NGO, Donor and government representatives to introduce their organization or discuss their activities, concern or problems where experts provide guidance on practical topics of importance to them.

Eligibility
 

While the conference/retreat is designed around WANGO members in Africa and beyond, the event is also open to members of the NGO community, donors, government representatives and other stakeholders in the third sector from across the world. 

Registration

Everyone attending the Conference is expected to apply formally by completing a Registration Form which is available online at www.wango.org/africa2008 and in the conference brochure. Reduced rates are available for WANGO members and those applying by April 3, 2008. All participants must complete the Registration Form and pay by April 17. Accreditation of confirmed delegates begins by 3.00 p.m. on Wednesday April 23rd. Registration closes for attendees from outside Accra area by April 23rd.

Lodging

Lodging will be at the Earlbeam Hotel, Accra which is the site of the event. Double-room occupancy will be provided for participants at the hotel, which is included in the registration package and at subsidized conference rate. Registered participants are expected to arrive on Thursday April 24 and depart on Sunday April 27, 2008. Participants who plan to arrive prior to the conference or stay after the conference should make their own room accommodations for the extra nights. Also participants who desire a single room will pay additional $50 per night to be included in the registration fees. Travel

Participants are responsible for their own air and ground travel arrangements and expenses. However, there is an ongoing discussion with Kenya Airways and Ethiopia Airline on reduced rates for participants traveling from any parts of Africa or beyond and flying any of the two carrier that will serve as the Conference Official Airlines. Participant wishing to use this opportunity will be required to show their letter of invitation from WANGO Africa Secretariat in addition to a Travel Card that will be issued to registrants. Those wishing to fly under this arrangement should contact the Conference Secretariat: africa@wango.org at least 14 days before the departure date.

Exhibition

Exposition programme through Exhibition are being organized for the summit. Interested organizations are expected to participate by showcasing their products, services and technologies. This is however not a trade fair and materials for exhibition are NGO-related concerns except for corporate sponsors. Only 20 Spaces are available and exhibitors will be considered on 'First Come First Served' basis. An exhibition table cost $50. Please send letter of intent or email with your payment to africa@wango.org by April 17, 2008. Late registrations will attract $10 payable onsite.

Call for Papers

While speakers for the main sessions are being selected by the Organizing Committee, OC, opportunities are available for NGOs, donors or government representatives to introduce their organizations and its relevance to the summit or present particular projects or issues of interest to them and the NGO community. Speakers for this plenary session are limited to ten (10) minutes presentation. Prospective presenters should submit a brief abstract (1 page maximum) of their planned presentation, full name, organization and address. Submission must be received latest by April 12, 2008. The Organizing Committee will select paper presenters and qualified applicants will be notified through email. Please submit abstract via email to jdordor@cdp-africa.org

Promotions

The organizers will accept adverts in the Book of Programme and other outlets for the event such as magazine, flyers, Banners etc. To advertise or request for further enquiries, please contact the organizers via email: africa@wango.org

Cancellation/Refund

Registrants wishing to cancel their registration for any reason(s) are advised to do so on or before Thursday April 10, 2008. A full refund minus $25 cancellation will apply. No refund will be entertained after this date.

While cash payments are accepted at the Secretariat at any of the Official Chapters listed below, Western Union Money Transfer is accepted also only at the Conference Secretariat.
