General Information
Civil Society Organizations and Ethical Re-Orientation
The theme of this year’s event, which is ‘Non-State Actors and Ethical Re-Orientation’, is central to all facets of life. It is a general object in our general development that we all know the right thing but doing the right thing often eludes us. Almost every institution suffers the plague of acknowledging teachings and doctrines without adherence to activities and actions that flows from those teachings. Morality and values often have been overtaken by brazen desires and megalomania by people entrusted with authorities to oversee the progress and development of others. People become honored daily for unethical behaviors and others get tempted to become unethical since ethical behaviors are almost disregarded and dishonored. These topsy-turvy aspects of the society adversely affect our development, resulting in poverty, crises and social vices. Must we continue to fold our arms while our cherished ethics and values are continuously and deliberately being abused? There is need for lasting solution to this phenomenon to save the society from total decadence. If the first sector of the realm (government) and the second sector (business) close their eyes to this problem, the third sector (non-for-profit) cannot afford to do the same. It is high time the non-state actors (NSAs) come out to hold the bull by the horn, to ensure the re-orientation and the resuscitation of our lost ethics and values in the various institutions. It is only then that we can reap the dividend of our resources. However, NSAs have a responsibility to be transparent and honest in doing this for them to succeed. As it is often said “he who is looking for equity must come with clean hands” The foregoing makes this conference a valid gathering. Objectives
