  Inauguration of New WANGO Chapters
    Two new WANGO chapters, one in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the other in Zambia, were recognized at the 2005 Annual Conference. Formation of a WANGO chapter is an organizational option available to WANGO organization members within a nation or region. (Read more...)
     

  Five 2005 WANGO Awardees
    WANGO Awards were presented to NGOs in the categories of Education, Humanitarian, Society and Health, Peace and Security, and a special award for a Century of Service to Humanity and Society.   WANGO Conference 2005
    Calling NGOs to rise to the challenge, the WANGO Conference 2005 gathered 265 NGO leaders from 37 nations in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, under the theme, "The Role of NGOs in Creating a World Fit For Children." An international children's art exhibit, Children Color the World, was featured at the conference. (Read more...)
     

  NGOs Can Fill the Void of a Moral Voice in the Twenty-First Century
    Dr. Noel Brown, Member of the WANGO International Council, affirmed that NGOs can provide the much needed moral voice in the Twenty First Century. He introduced the WANGO Code of Ethics and Conduct for NGOs to the United Nations Department of Public Information so that they may consider it as the code of conduct for their non-governmental members.   Student Volunteers Help Revitalize Primary Education in the Dominican Republic
    Service for Peace, a WANGO member, established partnerships with government ministries, NGOs, colleges, foundations and corporations for its summer project of introducing a model elementary school, El Baden Elementary School in the village of Frasquito Gomez, Dominican Republic, that can be then duplicated within the Dominican Republic and other countries.     Three core staff and two summer interns of the WANGO Secretariat participated in the 2nd Annual International Roundtable on Service and Volunteerism held in Washington D.C. on August 3, 2005.   Linking Sports and Peace at the Grassroots Level
    The thirty-one Play Soccer Make Peace! (PSMP!) projects held from July 2004 to May 2005 were very successful. The players connected to the vision of PSMP!, and its Principles and Codes, yet unique aspects of the country's culture and history with soccer were reflected in each of the PSMP! tournaments.   Pearl of the Orient Discovers WANGO
    Sri Lanka, also known to many as the "pearl of the orient" became the motherland of the first WANGO chapter in Asia. Thirty-one NGO founding members gathered to celebrate the inauguration of the WANGO Sri Lanka Chapter at the Samadeepa Centre in Anuradhapura on March 27, 2005. (Read more...)
     

  Code of Ethics Endorsed
    According to survey results from WANGO members, the Code of Ethics and Conduct for NGOs, published after two and a half years of effort, received extremely high approval ratings. The Association will make this Code available to the public and mail a copy to each WANGO member free of charge. (Read more...)
     

  WANGO's Voice at the British Museum
    Taj Hamad, Secretary General of WANGO, participated in a debate at the British Museum on June 15, 2005, titled "Currencies of Trust: God and Mammon." The event, sponsored by the British Museum and The Guardian newspaper and chaired by Jon Snow, writer and BBC broadcaster, hosted a diverse group of panelists and addressed the issue of "whether religion has succeeded where the African nation state has failed."   WANGO gives its support to Bauchi 2005, the Fifth Annual All Nigeria NGO Summit held in Bauchi, Nigeria.
    The Fifth Annual All Nigeria NGO Summit and Exposition, organized by NGO Guide 2000, with the support of the World Association of NGOs (WANGO), Organization for Research of World Peace (ORWP), and the Lagos and Bauchi State Governments, was held February 24-26, 2005 in Bauchi, Nigeria. Two hundred and seventy participants from various NGOs, the government, corporate organizations, the media, academia and the civil society were in attendance. (Read more...)

    H.E. Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, first President of the Republic of Zambia, was presented the WANGO Universal Peace Award 2004 at an Award Luncheon during the 3rd International Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IIPT) African Conference, being held at Hotel InterContinental Lusaka in Lusaka, Zambia, on February 5, 2005. H.E. Dr. Kaunda was bestowed the Universal Peace Award, WANGO’s highest award to individuals, because of his remarkable service to humanity, both in politics and in the non-governmental sector.   WANGO Membership Committee is expanded in 2005
    On October 20, 2002, the International Council established a Membership Committee, as provided by Article IV, Section 6 of the Bylaws, which states, “the International Council may establish a Membership Committee in order to recommend and administer policy and establish requirements and dues for membership classes."
