Small Grants for Occupational Empowerment of Women in Developing Countries

WANGO is issuing a call for proposals, under the Stan and David L. Citron Fund, for partial support of effective programs helping women achieve economic empowerment. These will be small grants of up to US$ 3,200 and are available only to small-to-medium-sized NGOs (nonprofits, charities, civil society organizations), with low overhead, working in developing countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America, or the English-speaking Caribbean. The grants will be specifically for occupational/vocational training programs and not for general operating expenses.

Known as “The Girl Effect,” investing in women and girls has proven to be one of the best ways to alleviate poverty, improve health, and address such societal ills as corruption, violence, impoverished families, and HIV/AIDS. Women with economic means have more control over their own lives and family planning, contribute to their children’s development and family’s health, invest in their communities, and indirectly aid their nation’s economic development.

Stan Citron has selected WANGO as a conduit for his donations to small, effective nonprofits working for the empowerment of women in developing nations, with emphasis on occupational/vocational training. He has provided funds to WANGO to be part of a dedicated fund, the Stan and David L. Citron Fund, to foster this goal. While this initial support to NGOs is small, there is potential for continuing funds to recipient NGOs in future years, given the effectiveness of their programs.
